Fauna Forever
Much of Namibia’s wildlife remains undocumented, especially in remote and hard-to-reach regions. In 2026 the research organisation Fauna Forever entered a previously unresearched area of the Erongo Region to survey its birds, bats and mammals for the first time. By documenting the species living there, the team aims to establish an ecological baseline and uncover wildlife that has never been recorded. This work is increasingly urgent as mining expands across the region. Knowing which species and habitats are present is the first step towards assessing the impact of development and ensuring the area’s biodiversity is recognised and protected.
