A published nature photographer and science photojournalist with over a decade of experience in storytelling, pitching to editors, and collaborating with leading publications. My work has been featured in renowned outlets such as National Geographic Germany, Terra Mater, Oceanographic Magazine, Wildlife Photographic, Sony Alpha Universe, Nature TTL, Sidetracked Magazine, and Female Explorer.
As a National Geographic Explorer and iLCP Emerging League member, I have worked with some of the world’s top magazines and been mentored by leading professionals and editors in the nature photography industry and bring additional storytelling experience as a TEDx speaker.

Course Curriculum
Session 1: Finding a Story
The first session provides a comprehensive guide to discovering and developing a visual story. It covers essential steps, including initial research, contacting collaborators, planning fieldwork logistics, and managing budgeting and funding. This introductory session also highlights helpful resources to support you in taking the first steps toward launching your projects successfully. The goal of this session is to help you meticulously plan and critically refine your story before bringing it to life.
Session 2: The Elements of a Story
This section explores the essential components of storytelling, guiding you through planning, shooting, and realizing your vision. Learn how to structure a compelling narrative, create a strategic shot list, and communicate your vision to collaborators. Gain practical insights on troubleshooting challenges on site, and ensure your project’s success by addressing critical aspects such as permits, clearances, and photo releases. This session equips you with the tools to craft a comprehensive, publication-ready story.
Session 3: Preparing Your Story for a Magazine Pitch
This module provides a deep-dive into preparing your story to be pitched to magazines. It takes you from the first steps of finding the right magazine, to understanding the difference in requirements between digital and print publications, curating your images and preparing a portfolio, as well as approaching editors and writing a pitch. After this section, you will gain deeper insights into the process of preparing your image selection and story to present to key decisionmakers and gatekeepers.
Session 4: From Pitch to Publication – Working with Editors
This session provides insights into selling your visual story and collaborating with an editorial team to prepare the final product. Explore key considerations upon getting your pitch accepted, working with editors to select the best visuals, navigating the writing process, communicating with collaborators, and managing the financial aspects of digital and print publishing. The goal of this session is to demystify
the journey from pitch to publication, while laying the groundwork for future collaborations with editors.
Session 5: One-on-One Feedback Session
The final module of this course is dedicated to a 30-minute, one-on-one feedback session on your photo story. Whether you have a completed project ready for pitching and publishing or are just starting with an idea, this session provides a space to refine your vision. Together, we will discuss your ideas, brainstorm strategies, select impactful images, and address any questions you may have. The goal is to provide you with guidance and actionable steps to help you confidently move forward in bringing your story to life.

The live sessions will be conducted via Zoom. A link to install the software will be provided for different operating systems upon course registration. Additionally, Having photography editing software, such as Lightroom, Photoshop, or Luminar Neo is recommended. Free editing alternatives will also be suggested during the course.
All course materials will be accessible via a Google Drive folder, where session recordings and your workbook will be uploaded. Upon registration, you will receive a link to download the workbook. The link for live sessions via Zoom will be sent approximately one week before each meeting.
Recordings of the live sessions will be provided after each module. Upon registration, you will receive access to a Google Drive folder containing your workbook, where all session recordings will be uploaded. Access to the recordings will be available for a period of 3 months after the course ends. Access to your 1:1 session will be made available to you indefinitely.
This course will be beneficial to you regardless of whether or not you have a photography portfolio. We will cover key strategies to help you build a strong portfolio and/or refine your existing images to tell a compelling story. The 1:1 feedback session will identify storytelling gaps and provide clear next steps for completing your pitch. No prior publication experience is required, as the course will guide you through the strategies needed to publish your work.
At the end of each live session, you will have the opportunity to ask questions. Since this course is held in a small-group setting, there will be ample time to clarify any points that need further discussion.
The course includes a workbook, which you will receive upon registration. Each live session will cover a chapter of the workbook, featuring tasks, exercises, and assignments designed to help you craft a compelling story and develop an effective pitching strategy.
Recordings of the live sessions will be available for 3 months after the course ends. Your workbook and the recorded 1:1 session will remain accessible indefinitely.
